Prologue: The Birdie Poem
May school project kami sa History, at malas na na-partner sa akin si Gretchen. Si Gretchen ang kaklase kong weird, na laging nakasuot ng Hello Kitty na hoodie, at may kwintas na bawang. Ang kanyang mga mata ay natatakpan ng makapal na full-bangs.

Kalagitnaan ng aming diskusyon nang bigla siyang mangisay, nagbubulong in a husky voice, “May nararamdaman ako… May nararamdaman ako.” Tapos tumayo siya na parang wala lang at nagtanong, “Nasan ang CR?”

Malapit na kaming matapos sa project nang biglang dumating si ate Sabby. Biglang nawala sa tabi ko si Gretchen. Nasilip ko sa bintana, hayun siya’t kausap niya ang ate Sabby. At narinig kong itinanong niya, “Naniniwala ka ba sa sumpa?” Continue reading…

Prologue: Dilemma of the Dragons

Once upon a long time ago…
Dragons appeared on the face of the Philippines. Despite their scaly faces and intimidating presence, they co-existed with all other creatures.

They lived in peace and no one was burned alive.

Years later, humans dominated the archipelago with all the islands and waters embraced therein, and all other territories over which the Philippines has sovereignty or jurisdiction.

And together with the discovery of butane and the widespread use of Gasul, the dragons were hunted and slayed by the manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers of these products. Extinction was foreseen and so their population was forced to hiding. Continue reading…
